Having studied with great interest the many excellent papers read before this Society by experts and scientists, I was very agreeable surprised when the Chairman of your Committee on Meetings extended to me an invitation to address you this evening; and I esteen it at a high compliment, indeed, to have been selected for that purpose. No one, I may give assurance, takes a deeper interest than myself in the promotion of a Society such as this, and no one is more in sympathy with the objects of your Society as outlined in Article II of its Constitution.
