The purpose of the Student Learning Styles Inventory is to assess the learning needs, learning orientation, and concerns, feeling, and motivation of students engaged in a formal course of study. The present inventory is an expansion and outgrowth of earlier research brought about by a discrepancy between a learning environment proposed or prescribed by popular adult learning "theorists," and that preferred by adult students. This research is ongoing at several major universities and colleges.
