A proposed bill by Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren to giveSocial Security recipients a one-time lump sum of $581 highlights the need for Americans to save more for retirement.
The proposed bill, the SAVE (Seniors And Veterans Emergency) Benefits Act, would give seniors a 3.9% increase in Social Security benefitsfollowing October’s announcement that there would not be a cost of living adjustment in 2016, the third time since 1975.
